Use this calculator for a realistic installed price range for a stairlift in the UK. The estimates come from the prices we track across UK installers and manufacturers for our UK mobility statistics and stairlift price guides, updated for 2026.

Stairlift cost calculator

How the estimate is calculated

Straight stairlifts on a standard 13-step staircase cost £1,800 to £5,500 installed, and most people pay £2,500 to £4,000. Curved stairlifts need a rail made for your staircase, so they cost £3,800 to £10,000, most often £5,000 to £7,000. Each step beyond a standard staircase adds rail length, which is why the calculator asks how many steps you have. Reconditioned straight stairlifts typically cost 25% to 40% less than new. Outdoor models add £300 to £800 for weatherproofing.

Three ways to pay less

Most stairlift buyers qualify for VAT relief, which removes 20% from the price if the user is chronically ill or disabled. The Disabled Facilities Grant can cover up to £30,000 of home adaptations in England if you qualify through your local council. And several charities offer stairlift funding when the grant route is too slow or you fall outside the criteria.

What affects the final quote

The installed price on a real quote depends on rail length and shape, which seat and safety options you choose, whether the installer needs to work around doorways or radiators at the bottom of the stairs, and how quickly you need it fitted. Get at least three quotes: our price research shows differences of £1,000 or more for the same staircase. Our guide to UK stairlift brands compares Acorn, Stannah, Handicare and others on price and quality.
